Create a Font From Background Images

  1. Draw some letters and create a digital image from your drawings.
  2. Edit the background image
  3. Insert a new background image.
  4. Select the crop tool.
  5. Create a rectangle around the letter.
  6. Click on the rectangle to crop the image.
  7. Resize the image.
  8. Move image to its position on the base line between the side bearings.
  9. Zoom in on the area where between the top and bottom lines.
  10. Adjust the size.and position of the image.
  11. Insert new quadratic control points. Use as few points as possible when you create the outline. It is easier to add more points later than removing points from a path. Quadratic points (the number 2 option) or quatratic points with two line handles (the 2×2 option) is best if you are going to export your font as in TTF format.
  12. Select points that should be on the smooth parts of th curve with and click on ,
  13. Align the path with the background image.
  14. Add points for the counter path.
  15. Create counter path from the new outline.
  16. Edit the counter path.
  17. Hide the background image.
  18. Click on the middle mouse button or press Command+B on Mac to hide the control points and fill the glyph.
  19. Continue editing until your are happy with the result.
