Drawing With a Grid

Two screencasts on how to use a grid to draw 'o' and how to use the bowl from 'o' to create 'e'.

Draw 'o'

  1. Select the pen
  2. Set control point type to quadratic
  3. Turn on grid
  4. Right click to create new control points
  5. Hold down shift and select all control points
  6. Tie control points handles
  7. Adjust the position of the control point handles
  8. Right click to create a counter path
  9. Hold down shift and select all control points in the counter path
  10. Tie control points handles in the counter path
  11. Adjust the position of the control point handles in the counter path

Draw 'e'

  1. Edit → Select All Paths
  2. Edit → Copy
  3. Edit → Set Glyph Background
  4. Open the overview tab and select e.
  5. Edit → Paste In Place
  6. Select pen and double click to add two new points in the lower right part of the letter.
  7. Hold down shift and select the two points.
  8. Press delete.
  9. Add the missing points and make the inside a bit taller. Right click to add the missing points and left click + drag to move the other points.
  10. Add three new points at the overlap and press delete to open the path.
  11. Join the paths.
  12. Select the control point in the corner and use arrow keys to move it to its position.
  13. Open the kerning tab and compare the two glyphs. (File → Kerning)
